Bowerbird Bazaar

Team Kitty are getting a bit excited about the up-coming Bowerbird Bazaar – Adelaide’s Design Market. Pop the date in your diary – May 3rd, 4th and 5th at The Stirling Angas Pavilion of the Adelaide Showgrounds. Kitty Came Home is at stall number 16 next to One Seed and Among The Trees.
See you there!

Adelaide’s Botanic Park became Team Kitty’s home for the 4-day WOMADelaide festival (8-11 March).
It was fun to re-create our recycled plywood pallet pop-up store on the grass under our tent. You can see some of the set-up day pictures here in our Flickr album

WOMADElaide was our first outdoor market and we learned a lots of tricks from our lovely neighbours who are seasoned marketers at outdoor festivals. On our left were the helpful Sally, Ross and Kelly from Embella Jewellery who had travelled all the way from the top end of Australia, and on our right was the lovely Adelaide (personified!), a fellow Etsy seller from Pirates Dreaming, who had travelled from Byron Bay. Adelaide makes her jewellery with partner Aaron James from antique cutlery that they saw pierce, forge and oxidise into unique rings and pendants.
It was great to have such friendly stall holder neighbours on either side. Thank you Sally for removing a bee sting from my arm with your jewellery pliers, and thank you Adelaide for sharing stories about being a seller on Etsy (if we start an Etsy team we’ll want you aboard) and thank you Ross for somehow understanding my heat effected, tired gibberish at the end of each night when you asked me where our front cover for the tent was!

And thank you to our customers. It’s so nice to receive your appreciation and feedback, and to see some of our long term Kitty fans, who can never have enough Kitty goodies, adding to their collection. After two months bunkered down in the studio making stock for WOMADElaide, we do occassionally think we’re a tad nuts – but then when we see the expressions on your faces when your eyes catch sight of the clutch that you ‘have to have’ and, thank you, that’s really rewarding.
Huge thanks also to Jane Leicester for helping with set up, and thanks to my two gorgeous sisters, Sandy and Juz for their help and support too.

Bowerbird Bazaar

Counting down the days until the next Bowerbird Bazaar, Adelaide’s biggest and best Design Market!

This week Team Kitty have been looking at a few snaps of the three evolving Bowerbird stall designs we’ve had so far (pics below are from the earliest two at the Queen’s Theatre, to the most recent at Wayville in March this year).

Nutting out a plan for a new stall design is not easy, but after lot’s of brainstorming, a few drawings and strenuous excercising of my visual imagination, I think we’ve got it; something fresh and new for this Bowerbird which is…eek! only 8 days away! Right: to the Triton work bench Mr Kitty! I’ll stay here at the sewing machine and make new Bi-fold Clutches and iPad Sleeves.

Looking at the Exhibitors Guide and layout I see that our neighbouring stall holder is fellow Adelaide crafter, Linda from Delilah Devine. YAY! If you love Kitty’s vintage fabrics you’re likely to love the vintage wallpapers that feature on Delilah Devine’s laser cut flying ducks and galloping horses.

My favourite product from Delilah Devine is the Cross-Stitch Pendant , a folk inspired laser cut pendant of eco bamboo that comes with instructions for creating your own colourful cross-stitch pattern.

Lot’s to do between now and then! Hope to see you at Bowerbirb Bazaar, July 20-22, The Stirling Angas Pavilion, Adelaide Showground, Goodwood Road, Wayville. Entry via Rose Terrace.

New Bi-fold Clutch

The cat’s out of the bag: Announcement! After months of design, prototyping, development and road testing, Team Kitty (Katrina and Farley) have a new product and we are as proud as punch about it!

Green gems Bi-fold Clutch

Our new bi-fold clutch unites wallet functionality with colourful felt linings and our pretty kitty fabrics, all carefully wrapped up in our trademark PVC.

The bi-fold clutch brings you twice as many card pockets, and a tidy coin pocket that you can see right through to count your cash. Here’s a slide show of the new Bi-folds that we have made so far:

Finders Keepers Sydney Kitty stall

Keen Kitty fans snapped them up at the recent Finders Keepers Sydney, Markit@FedSquare and Handmade Canberra’s Upmarket.

Bright Green Laces and Lucy and The Runaways have both blogged about the NKOTB (new kitty on the block).

We’ll be having a little product launch for our new goodies (bi-fold clutches and iPad sleeves) at Urban Cow Studio for the month of July… Adelaide fans be sure to pop in and have a look. Keep your eye on our Etsy shop as we’ll be listing a selection of the new Bi-fold Clutches very soon!

Finders Keepers Melbourne

Kitty just purchased a big white van to carry our goodies around in. This weekend will be it’s first outing and we’re taking it to Finders Keepers Market in Melbourne. Come check out or stall which will be bursting with vintage delights including our new iPad Sleeve’s. Hope to see you there xx

After a busy 2011 year of design markets (Bowerbird Bazaar, Finders Keepers-Brisbane, Undercurrent and Markit@FedSquare), Craft South commissioned my Mr Kitty (aka Farley Wright) to pen a piece for their website.

This is a good read for any crafty makers out there who are thinking of applying for a Design Market for the first time. Read the full article here.

Whoopsie daisies! I should have posted about this exhibition in December before it began, it’s all over now but I’d still like to share it with you.

MELT was a wee little exhibition of rings that I made and had on show for the month of December 2011 at Urban Cow Studio in Adelaide. Thanks to everyone who went along to have a look and for all of your positive feedback and purchases.

A collection of rings by Adelaide jeweller Katrina Weber, these utterly individual creations found their inspiration in a free-form organic play of precious metals: 18ct gold, pure silver and sterling silver.

Wrought raw in the studio making process, each ring finds it own direction. Natural and found objects (dried leaves, fabrics, papers) roller printed into the metal surface. Rings becoming collective nouns for granulated globules of silver and gold, nestled together upon bands of fused silver in fine textures of matt and bright finishes.

Whimsical and delicate, precious rings to grace a hand.
